An interesting pre-match episode with the captain AWOL did not hugely affect the course of the game. Having won the toss and deciding to bat on a very pleasant sunny afternoon, things did not get off to a great start losing Dave A and Malcolm early on with runs only just in double figures. Luckily, man of the moment Dan Vann (17) strode to the crease and along with Garth put on 50 odd before Garth departed for a well played 31. Simon hung around for his customary 'just short of double-figures' effort. Pete struggled to get going but the scored crept up to 96 for 5 with 12 overs to go - a decent platform. Moxy played a terrific innings, and with some quick running from Mally at the other end, we ended up accumulating just under 160. Moxy ended up 53*, hitting 3 fours in the penultimate over to reach his first 50 of the season.
Tea (despite complaints from the scorer that not enough cakes were provided, on production of the second tray of cakes which the tea-table laying team had not put out, the scorer then stated he didn't like those sort of cakes. There is no pleasing some people…) was taken, well shopped Garth!
The second innings didn't last beyond 28 overs, the opener who was far too good for this level of cricket scoring runs at will. Charlie W bowled an excellent spell, 5 overs 2 maidens for 10 runs and Mally had an arguably plumb LBW shout turned down…no surprise there then…
Good to get a game in the sunshine and have a couple of beers afterwards.
