Can you believe are we already half way through June? It has not been the hottest of summers so far but much is happening around the club. Many positives are about but there are two nagging problems that do not seem to go away
- Availability is still poor every week yet we have lots of members??! We did have a players' meeting a couple of weeks ago and some points have already been actioned in terms of encouraging more players on a Saturday. If you have not seen the action list that I sent on the Player WhatsApp group them please reply to this mail and send me your number. We can all encourage our mates to play or mention the club to friends and family, please tell the people you know about NECC and encourage them to come up and play / support.
- We still need an umpire in the 2nd XI. As per previous mails please can you let me or Mark know if you can help out or if you know someone who is keen. If you or another want to go on a course here is a link to the next dates / venues and the club will pay http://www.mcbaco.org.uk/. Please reply to me with names and I will arrange to book you on.
- We will be opening up the club tomorrow for the England vs Slovakia game in the Euros. The big screen will be down and the bar open. Mrs Chairman and I are letting our two stay up late as a special treat, so please come and join us and cheer on Woy's Boys! All members both adults and junior are welcome as too are family and friends.
- Finally for our older members, Peggy and Bob Dye's son Colin has recently been in touch to wish the club well. He writes
Just to let you know that my Mother, Peggy Dye, is now in a care home in Louth. She is quite well but at 92 finds looking after herself difficult. Unfortunately she also has Dementia so has little knowledge of where she is and her short term memory is hazy but as seems to be the case with Dementia, her older memory's remain. She does still remember her times at Strayfield Road with Bob, my dad.
I'm glad to know that the club is still thriving. I have fond memories of helping my dad at the club and of travelling to away matches at wonderful grounds around the county and beyond. The enjoyment that people got from playing the game and the friendliness of all involved remains with me still. A simpler and less complicated era to be sure but I hope some of that spirit lives on.
I'd be happy for James to mention my mother and you can give my e-mail address (firstname.lastname@example.org) if anyone wishes to get in touch. I'd also like to be on the mailing list as it may help me trigger some happy memories for my mum.
I say it in every mail because it is true; NECC is as much your club as it is mine and all of us on Management. If you have any ideas, suggestions, observations or thoughts about anything re. North Enfield CC then please let me know.
Many thanks for reading my mails and with very best wishes
Chairman, North Enfield Cricket Club
