FROM THE CHAIR

Mail from The Chair - Number 105

31/10/2016

Dear North Enfield,

Well, the last game of the season seem like an age ago but I can assure you that October has been a monumental month for our cricket club!  The words 'loved', 'spacious', 'modern', 'smart', 'efficient' and 'wow' have not been associated with our pavilion in many years!  These words can now be said with confidence and pride!  I could forward on photos, but I would rather you see for yourself what has been achieved.....

We are all busy and we all have 'a lot on'; that is modern life, but since I have been Chairman, it never fails to amaze me what all members of the committee (past and present) give to our cricket club.  I can honestly say that none of us do it for self-gain, but we do it to ensure cricket continues to thrive in our little corner of Middlesex.

With this latest project, my sincere thanks goes to the vision, drive and support of Jane, Andy Mac, Del and the Colonel. I know how busy they all are yet they have found many hours to get materials ordered, draw up designs, and use their hands and skills at the club for all our benefit.  I also want to say thank you for the help received from all parents, members, and friends of the club - too numerous to mention but you know who you are!  Every hour has counted and has further improved our club!  Though the vast amount has been done there are still LOTS of things to do; if you want / can help please contact Jane or
myself....

We have made it clear from the start that the aim of the refurbishment is to make us all want to spend more time at the club, invite guests and attract new members. This extra inevitable income generated from our refurbished bar will be invested into (also) much-needed ground machinery, junior equipment, coaching qualifications, new veranda etc etc.  Exciting times.....

I hope that you have seen the flyer - we are holding a 'Pavilion Relaunch' party on Friday 18th November at 8pm.  Food with be provided so can I please ask that you let Andy or Mandy MacMurdie know if you are attending.  All members and their guests welcome!

I say it in every mail because it is true; NECC is as much your club as it is mine and all of us on Management.  If you have any ideas, suggestions, observations or thoughts about anything re. our club then please let me know.

Many thanks for reading my mails and with very best wishes
James

Dear North Enfield,

It is with great sadness that I write to advise all members and friends of North Enfield that our long serving president, member and friend Alan Wood sadly passed away last night after a short illness.  I know that you will all join me in passing our best wishes to Malcolm, Ralph and the rest of the family at this sad time.

On a personal note I cannot remember Alan not being at the club, he was an instrumental player in the Saturday 3s in the early 90s giving much support to us up and coming juniors, together with the likes of John Head, Barry Long, Peter Johnson, John Perry, Malcolm and Ralph.  After reluctantly hanging up his boots, Alan was an ever present figure popping up to support the home eleven from his deckchair with his essential accessory; a cup of tea.

Alan was so so pleased to see the junior section going from strength to strength and to see all the progress we have made in recent years on and off the pitch.  Ever interested, optimistic and cheery; Woody may you rest in peace.

Details on the family's wishes over the coming weeks to follow.....

With very best wishes

James
