FROM THE CHAIR

Mail From The Chair - Number 77

Dear North Enfield,

Sorry to trouble your inboxes with another mail so soon, but I forgot a few things.

Firstly Mark Ricketts and Darren Atkins are organising a 6 a side tournament on the 12th September.  All members are become to host a team and it would be great to get some new faces to Strayfield Road, so please ask friends and family.  The aim of the day is to play some fun cricket in a social atmosphere, feast on the BBQ and a buy a beer from behind the bar.  Please contact Mark or Darren with details of your team and get involved!

Chris Mckenna is our brilliant Welfare Officer and as a club we feel that we need a deputy in case Chris is away on a Wednesday.  Ideally we would look to someone who does not have a role in the club to volunteer, say a parent of one of our Juniors. The person would need to gain a certificate and train up on the following areas.....

  A DBS check
  Safeguarding & Protecting Children Course
  Safe Hands Workshop
  First Aid

The courses are up to a few hours each and need to renewed online every few years.  There are numerous courses held over the winter, they are all nearby and the club will pay for any course fees.

Can someone please put their hand up and let know if you are willing to do this.  Thank you.

Finally as all senior member are aware, the League has changed in format this season. The organisers are keen to glean feedback from all players and clubs. It is time to have your say, so here is a link to the survey which should take 5-10 mins to complete.

Dear North Enfield,

It is hard to believe that our Juniors had their last session tonight in what has been another excellent season for all concerned.  Thanks to all players, parents and coaches for making the 2015 season such a success!  A reminder that the Junior Presentation evening will take place on the 11th September, please contact Phil Jones for tickets. See you there.......

Staying with the Juniors but aimed at all club members Tracey Webster is looking to arrange a NECC cricket week next year at St Osyth (near Clacton). She has spaces at a caravan park with good facilites reserved from Monday 30th May - Friday 3rd June 2016. Please can you call or text her on 07853 417070 so she can firm up numbers.

As per my last mail can you please reply to Phil Jones or I if you are able to join us on 30th August for our 40th birthdays. We do hope so......

Please make yourself available to play criket at the weekend.  All three teams are doing well, but we need people to play and represent our club. Contact the skippers and do you bit to make their job easier please.....

Dear North Enfield,

I just wanted to drop everyone a few lines with some news from North Enfield.

Firstly thanks for all those that did support, but unfortunately we were not awarded money in the Aviva funding application.  Awards can be found following this link https://community-fund.aviva.co.uk/voting/project/winners.  This just shows that funding is not guaranteed, but rest assured, that we have lost out in the past and will try again.  Special thanks to Dave Malleson in sticking his hand up on this one and Tony Hutchinson in highlighting it in the first place.

A quick update to work in the pavilion, I can confirm that we have new fire exit doors on order and they are being made currently.  Not sure when they will be fitted but I am chasing the company to get them in ASAP!  Also thanks to Andy Mac the male and disabled toilets have been revolutionised!  Thanks Andy for all work.

Our junior and senior cricket teams have all tasted success in the first half of the season.  Well done and thanks to all those that have made themselves available and represent our club with such distinction!  Thanks especially to all skippers, vice skipper and junior match managers for keeping everybody organised.

Finally I know we both don't look it, but Phil Jones and I are both 40 this year.  We are planning a game of cricket on Sunday 30th August and invite all members and friends to join us to celebrate!  Please see the attached invite which should answer most questions.  If not please drop and line to Phil or I.  We just ask that you RSVP as per the invite so we can cater for people in the evening.  I should also say that there are plans for a family / junior cricket day on the Bank Holiday Monday, more details to follow.....

That's me for now and see you at Strayfield Road in the near future......
